What exactly is a skill?

A skill is a structured knowledge package built for AI agents. It contains the facts, rules, procedures, and guardrails your agents need to act correctly, not a document to read, but machine-ready instructions. For example, a 'How we handle refunds' skill tells your agent the limit, who to escalate to, and what rule to cite.

How is this different from a search tool or RAG?

Search and RAG hand your agent a document and hope it figures out the answer. Index.brain extracts the actual decision: the rule, the limit, the escalation path. It delivers it as a verified skill with guardrails. Your agent doesn't search. It already knows.

Do you store my emails and messages?

No. We never store raw emails, Slack messages, or documents. We read your tools, extract the knowledge, and store only the structured facts. The original content stays in Gmail, Slack, Notion. We never copy it.

How long does it take to set up?

Connecting a tool takes under 2 minutes: just OAuth, no config. Your first skills will be ready within a few hours of connecting. No docs to write, no training required.

What tools do you connect to?

Gmail, Slack, Notion, Jira, Linear, GitHub, Asana, Granola, and Fathom. We're adding more integrations regularly. If your stack isn't listed, get in touch. We prioritize by demand.

How long does it take to start seeing results?

Processing takes a few hours after your first sync. The brain reads your tools, extracts knowledge, structures it into skills, and runs confidence checks. You'll get an email when your first skills are ready. After that, it updates every few hours automatically.

Which AI agents does it work with?

Any agent that supports MCP (Claude, Cursor) or can call a REST API (ChatGPT, n8n, Zapier, custom bots). If your agent can make an API call, it can use Index.brain skills.

How do agents access the skills?

Two ways. MCP: paste one URL into Claude or Cursor and skills arrive in your agent's context automatically. REST API: make a GET request with your API key and get structured skill data back. Both deliver the same skills with the same permissions.

Who can see our company data?

Only you and the team members you invite. Each company's data is fully isolated. No shared infrastructure, no cross-account access. You control which agents and team members can access which skill categories through the permissions system.

What happens if I disconnect a tool?

You choose. You can keep the skills that were already extracted, or delete all data from that source permanently. If you choose to delete, we show you exactly what will be removed, ask for double confirmation, and delete everything within 24 hours. It's irreversible, so we make sure you mean it.
